Legacy ERP Integration: Bridging E-Commerce and Enterprise Systems

The Situation

The client’s web store and ERP were effectively two different worlds. Online orders lived in the commerce database; stock, billing and logistics lived in the ERP. Every connection between them required someone to copy data by hand or rely on unstable connector plugins.

The business needed a direct, stable bridge between systems that would not introduce new single points of failure or require downtime.

Our Approach

We built a custom integration layer that understands both the commerce platform and the ERP — translating data between them continuously, without generic middleware or fragile third-party connectors.

Schema Translation Layer

We built a custom middleware service that listens to checkout events in the commerce platform, cleans and maps payloads into ERP-compatible structures, and handles different product types and order formats without manual rules for each new case. This translation layer understands both sides and keeps them aligned.

Automated Stock Synchronization

A dedicated engine now reads live warehouse balances from the ERP and pushes updates back to the storefront at tight intervals. Customers see only what is actually available, and operations teams do not need to cross-check spreadsheets.

Proprietary Integration Foundation

Instead of relying on off-the-shelf connectors, the client now runs an internal integration layer that is fully documented and owned by the organization, stable across upgrades because it is built for their exact stack, and reusable as a pattern for other integrations.

• Manual entry loops removed: Online customers, orders and billing details now flow straight into ERP workflows. Logistics can focus on shipping, not typing.
